This is the future folks.

We should all have the right to protect ourselves from harm.

If vulnerable groups can't hail a cab because the council artificially restricts their access to them, then shouldn't they have the right to access to whatever they need to protect themselves?

And the ultimate solution is a firearm.

What was it they said on Hill Street?

"Let's be careful out there." Michael Conrad 1925 - 1983.

So, can we expect councils to lobby Parliament to introduce a firearms law to protect those their taxi restriction policy places in unnecessary danger?

=D>

Think it was

Let's do it to them, before they do it to us.

Yup. Sounds good to me.

Here's another idea. After arming female members of the public the council could hold, inquisition style hearings, for any taxi drivers under investigation of a complaint. The taxi driver would first be subjected to an interrogation by a cop masquerading as a council official, where your right to remain silent or outright denial of the incident is taken as an admission of guilt. You would then be reported to the council to strand trial in front of a quasi judicial body, where no independent witnesses or physical evidence of wrongdoing is necessary to come to a decision to suspend your licence. Although personally, I would extend this punishment to putting your average taxi driver against a wall, having him blindfolded and shot.

Let's face it, at the end of the day, who would miss a couple of cabbies, it's not like you can hail a taxi on a busy night anyway.

Well, it would surely eradicate rape. we wouldn't have to worry about less than 4% of case leading to conviction. Women wouldn't have to go into the witness box to justify themselves. They wouldn't have to explain plunging necklines and short skirts.

They wouldn't have their sex life paraded before a jury to be tut tutted at, as if they aren't allowed to indulge in sex with another because normal sexual relations for a rape victim are somehow encouraging to a rapist.

The solution of a couple of 9mm injections may just be irresistible. It could just be like innoculating the problem rather than spreading it like a contagion.

Yup. I'm convinced. A Smith and Wesson 45 special would make an attacker of vulnerable women feel very special. Or not feel at all. After being introduced to the 45 that is.

Does the Bill of rights we don't have in this country allow us personal protection?

All much better than simply removing the restriction of taxi licences isn't it?

Can't make up my mind whether they have no sense of humour, or just no sense

Get the feeling the latest numpty to post on fasties was reeled in?

Come to think of it, we're doing more to encourage posts on fasties than Travis is.
