They may think they can charge what they like, but they can only charge the disabled what they charge the able bodied. :shock:

So if their normal rate just happens to be twice that of the local taxi rate, then I think they will be ok. But if it isn't, they are in breach of the DDA.

IT'S unbelievable!

My family and I travelled by taxi from the Lincolnshire Poacher to Montaigne Crescent in Lincoln and it cost us £6.40.

According to the AA, it takes one minute and is 0.7 miles. Why get a taxi? We were attending a birthday party and enjoyed a few drinks and not wanting to drink and drive or face the harsh cold weather thought we would get a taxi. On calling the firm involved we were not told about how much their service would cost us until we arrived at our door – £6.40. Who can justify paying or even asking anyone to pay that amount for such a short journey? On calling other firms in the area their prices are around the same. You would get a cheaper black cab in London for what we paid. This is utterly disgusting and outrageous and we think that the firms should review their pricing systems.

It is ridiculous and they should not be allowed to get away with it.

The job was only 0.7 miles, what if the car had travelled 4 miles to get to the job? The Lincolnshire poacher is right on the outskirts of Lincoln on the ring road so I'm guessing they booked a city based PH who implemented a booking charge which they are right to do IMO. Travelling 4 miles for a job which is not going to turn the meter over is out of order if you ask me. The driver needs to make money.

Lincolnshire Echo 2nd August. Local Taxi(sic) firm Handsome Cabs Charges double fare to Mrs Bailey because she is a wheelchair user. Are Handsome Cabs, A. Hackney Carriage B. Private Hire. As a local Councillor says, They can charge what they like. Answer to Question above, PRIVATE HIRE!!!!! They've never heard of the DDA then.

Any extra charge for being disabled is illegal under the DDA.

If you don't think the fare is worth the effort then don't do the job So you've got a driver who is renting a car from the firm, depending on what rent he pays lets say for arguments sake he pays £170 for half rent, add his rent for the car, his hourly rate, fuel etc etc that car has got to take £12 per hour for every hour he works that car, I'd like to see these moaners drive a taxi for the night and see how hard it is to earn a living.

Six quid for just over half a mile does seem excessive. But wannabee again fails to find out of the circumstances (I'm just waiting to hear it was an asian driver!) Going back to the original post....under the DDA sussex's reply is correct. CC
