Man who hurled abuse at shopkeeper after mistaking shop for taxi firm is sentenced

Barry Frost, of Holme Park Court in Berry Brow, appeared before Kirklees magistrates yesterday. At a previous hearing he pleaded guilty to racially-aggravated threatening behaviour

A drunken man who hurled racist abuse at a shop owner after mistaking the store for a taxi firm has been ordered to undergo alcohol treatment.

Barry Frost, of Holme Park Court in Berry Brow, appeared before Kirklees magistrates yesterday. At a previous hearing he pleaded guilty to racially-aggravated threatening behaviour.

Frost staggered into Lockwood-based Safdar Newsagents on September 12. He repeatedly asked for a taxi – mistaking the shop for a cab firm located beneath the Lockwood Road premises.

Frost, 53, yesterday pleaded guilty to a further charge of stealing £21 worth of chicken and ready meals from Sainsbury’s.

Mohammed Arif, mitigating, said: “ He’s had alcohol issues for 15 years and is sick and tired of coming to court having offended.”

Magistrates ordered Frost to complete six months of alcohol treatment as part of a 12-month community order and pay £60 victim surcharge.
