Benefit cheat Hatfield cabbies have licences revoked - but they’re still driving taxis

Conning cabbies who fleeced the taxpayer out of nearly £50,000 have had their Hackney Carriage licences revoked – but are still driving taxis.

Shameem and Fateha Chowdhury, of Tiger Moth Way, Hatfield, were spared jail last month despite helping themselves to £33,116 in income support, £12,265 in housing benefit and £3,609 council tax benefit, a staggering total of £48,990.

The husband and wife, 46 and 38 respectively, were driving cabs at the time they were claiming benefits.

This week a council spokesman revealed their Hackney Carriage licences had been taken off
them.

But the shameless pair appealed the revocation and under the rules can continue driving cabs.

A Welwyn Hatfield Council spokesman told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “We’ve revoked their licenses due to their conviction.

“They appealed this decision at the magistrates court and there will be a hearing on the May 27 to determine their appeal.”

He added: “They are currently working pending that hearing.”

I think they will be getting what is due to them, and that's not more housing and similar benefits.

A shamed benefit cheat couple from Hatfield covered their faces as they walked free from court.

Shameem and Fateha Chowdhury, 46 and 38 respectively, scurried from St Albans Crown Court with coats on their heads, after a judge spared them a jail term despite fleecing the taxpayer out of nearly £50,000, in a two-year benefit fraud.

The married pair worked as taxi drivers while they helped themselves to £33,116 in income support, £12,265 in housing benefit and £3,609 council tax benefit, a staggering total of £48,990.

The con was one of the biggest benefit frauds ever seen in Welwyn Hatfield.

It was also revealed Shameem Chowdhury, of Tiger Moth Way, had a previous conviction for a similar offence in 2000.

Their mistake? obviously claiming income support while working ... end of

If they lose their driver badges they will have to open a taxi base, buy cars, rent them out like so many others....

Tbh I am past caring - if it is not them having it, then you can be rest assured you and I will not see the benefit of it. Quite frankly I would rather see every day people fleecing the government back.

It is only OUR money when a scam goes on, something on the lines of the patriotic call of " Gosh that is my money/Your Country Needs You", basically a tug at the heart strings, and a load of b*ll*^ks. What they are more annoyed at is the fact that there is less in the pot for the establishment to thieve.
