Taxi driver attacked in late night 'attempted murder' in Dunfermline

A taxi driver is in hospital after he was injured in an alleged street attack in Fife which police are treating as attempted murder. The 59-year-old man was the victim of the alleged serious assault on Appin Crescent, Dunfermline at 12.20am on Sunday. He was rushed to hospital by ambulance where he is currently being treated for his injuries. Hospital staff have described his condition as serious but stable.

A 46-year-old woman is currently detained in police custody in connection with the incident.

Detective Inspector John Anderson of Fife Division, who is leading the investigation, said: "During the early hours of Sunday 23, a 59-year-old male taxi driver sustained serious injuries as a result of an incident in Appin Crescent, Dunfermline. "This is being treated as attempted murder. The local community will see a high visibility Police presence in the area whilst we conduct this investigation and we appreciate their patience and cooperation.

"A 46-year-old local woman is currently detained in connection with this enquiry. I would like to take this opportunity to reassure the public that we have no information to suggest there is any threat to the wider community. "I would also appeal for any person with information regarding this incident and in particular any person who was in the area of Appin Crescent, Dunfermline around midnight and who may have witnessed anything suspicious or noticed a silver coloured Ford Mondeo taxi to contact Police Scotland on 101 or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

I don't believe it, another taxi driver beaten to within an inch of his life.    This must be some mistake because if this really did happen, taxi drivers up and down the country would be up in arms, screaming about making their working environment safer. #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o

As a matter of interest? What did you do when you were driving, to improve conditions for yourself and other drivers?

Well, as for myself, I always went out tooled up, which saved my bacon on more than one occasion. :-|

As for the other drivers, I did more than my fair share of confronting the council and the Cab Inspector, when it came to protecting the rights of taxi drivers. In fact, we still have a case running at the moment, which begs to be resolved, although the council and SPSO, are doing their best to kick it into the long grass. [-X

Oh and John, I confronted the council many times over a number of years, at their so called "public" meetings and in the court.

So you see John, I speak from a position of experience. Oh and if I say, cabbies, by and large, are dumb, spineless, pathetic individuals, it's because I know it to be true. :-| I've lived it. :-|

Oh and John, it may surprise you to know, that after twenty years of driving a cab. I came to loath my fellow cabbies. Yes, there are some decent guys, but by and large, I grew to despise Taxi drivers, Councillors and the general public. I honestly see the vast majority as the shi* stuck my shoes. :-|

I take on board what you have said. Having said that, in twenty years you were not able to change things!

You must have tried the Union/Federation route so you can see as to how difficult it is. The truth is that basically an existing Union has to step forward to take a confrontational stand, as Federations seem to carry very little clout, or for anyone to have any real faith in them. Unfortunately the Unions who could do the job, are also infested with the greed factor, and will not go out on a limb to attract new members, this has bred apathy/an acceptance of existing conditions/situations up and down the country.

It is not just the cabbing industry that is screwed, it is practically everything i.e Grangemouth/Zero hours contracts/ a friend of ours who has worked for our local rag for over 35 years, was made to apply for 4 different internal jobs during that time - the fourth interview @60 years of age, it was bye bye time. My point is, the workforce in this country have been screwed over by the Government, and the Unions....................are you really surprised there is so little fight "EVERYWHERE".

One thing I will say, is that I will never have contempt, or despise another man/woman who is working out of choice, and not on the dole. If you want to pour scorn on anyone - try the Unions, who have allowed financial suppression, and poor working conditions, plus standing by whilst a law/laws are made to restrict Union action.

There will come a day probably many years down the line when the population rise up........nothing will change until that day, it is too far gone.

Unions and federations won't alter a thing John.

Many Cabbies think it won't happen to them.

As things stand, you are right. Years ago the Unions would have been lobbying/banging on office/council doors quoting safety regs etc etc, the results being they would have gotten cams installed at subsidised rates, with the membership repaying the rest on a weekly basis. These days the majority of Union bosses are on very generous packages partially subsidised by the government to keep the peace, it also affords them the easy life......no rallies/speeches/reaching the members etc - they could not give a stuff about the people they supposedly represent.

My previous post mentions a 60 year old man who has worked for the same newspaper for over 35 years - he had to apply 4 times during those years to the same company for a position  That is absolutely shameful.........and the Unions allow that to happen #-o - NEVER in my day would that have happened.

John, you are no longer taxi drivers. You are Cab *iggers. And all these organisations you mentioned are just a bunch of Uncle Toms kissing ass on your behalf...

You only get the representation you deserve. [-X [-X

Quite honestly, cab *iggers, for the most part, make me want to puke. They are without dignity, someone to wipe your feet on after a night out. :-|

Oh and John, a Cab *iggers life is one of willful ignorance and abject servility. You are the Sheeple. #-o

You are confusing hate, with contempt. :-|

Look at it this way; I spent nearly twenty years with the council, the Cab Inspector, company committees, etc. thinking they could treat me, the way they do you. [-X

And now that I have escaped, I take great delight rubbing your nose in it by pointing out how ignorant and servile you Cab *niggrs really are.

You don't want to be treated with respect. You want what I give you, CONTEMPT, because that’s all you know and that's what you rightfully deserve. It was stupid of me to think otherwise. #-o

Have a look at your trade locally and some of the threads on this forum, they speak for themselves. You might not like it, but it’s the truth, and you know it. :-|

Oh and Flower, can you think of anyone out there, that is not ripping the absolute ar*e out of sheeple like you and your precious trade? [-X

And that would change things for you and your trade, how exactly??? :?

Would it make what I write, less truthful or honest? :-k

Don't you want to be treated with respect or to have better pay and conditions in a safe working environment? :-k

I don't see much of the above on this forum, unless of course, you know different John.

Please, feel free to educate me on where I have it wrong? :-k

Oh and John, I would be absolutely delighted if the taxi trade got up off its ar* and proved me wrong but until then... :-|

Here's another question for you John. Are you annoyed at me for pointing to your trades, many shortcomings or the truth that I speak? :?
