Newlyweds appeal for return of missing gifts

Newlyweds pleaded today: "Can we have our wedding gifts back please."

Chris and Bianca Lloyd tied the knot on Saturday but returned home minus a plastic bag brimming with presents and bouquets of flowers.

They are convinced the bag was in the boot of a taxi which drove away after dropping them at their home in St George's Terrace, Kemp Town, Brighton. Brighton and Hove Radio Cabs isn't so sure but the company is investigating and checking.

Bianca, 31, was in tears when she realised the bag was gone.

Her husband, 26, said: "We don't know what the gifts were because we didn't have chance to open them."

Their guests, some of whom made the trip from Italy and Spain, waved farewell to them at the Chez Nous restaurant in Kemp Town late on Saturday.

Chris said when they reached their home, he paid the driver who drove off before he could retrieve their gifts from the boot.

He said the driver may have been cross because they took time getting into and out of the cab because of farewells and the care needed to protect the wedding dress.

A spokeswoman for Radio Cabs yesterday said: "We will do our best to find the bag but we are unable to guarantee anything.

"There is no guarantee the gifts were in the boot in the first place."

She said the driver would be back at work on Wednesday: "He came into the office this morning but didn't mention anything about it."

Chris, meanwhile, has reported the loss to police and pleaded with anyone with information to help.

The offender is Asian, in his 20s and with long, greasy, black hair, is in possession of half a dozen toasters, three bedsets and a George Foreman family sized grill

Actually, I added the last bit myself.

It would be interesting to know the circumstances of the hiring though, I mean was it PH (in which case they should know the firm) or taxi - I mean where do you secure a taxi with a heap of wedding presents?
