Bradford cabbie attacked fellow driver after being 'goaded' about girlfriend, court told A CABBIE fractured two bones in a fellow cab driver's face after his victim 'goaded' him and made personal comments about his girlfriend.
Majid Hussain 'flashed' Zahid Ahmed to pull over and then punched him repeatedly in the face.
Hussain, 40, of Welbeck Rise, Great Horton, Bradford, accused Mr Ahmed of having sex with his girlfriend, Bradford Crown Court heard today.
He got out of his cab hit him to the right side of his head in Windermere Road, Great Horton, at 2.30am on July 26 last year.
Hussain tried to pull Mr Ahmed out of the car by his collar but he was still strapped in by his seat belt.
Mr Ahmed drove to Bradford Royal Infirmary and rang the police from the hospital.
He suffered a fractured right eye socket and broken cheekbone and needed surgery to insert metal plates into the injury.
He was still taking painkillers but expected to make a full recovery, the court was told.
Hussain, a former friend and colleague of Mr Ahmed, pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm.
He was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment, suspended for two years, with 180 hours of unpaid work.
He must pay Mr Ahmed £500 compensation and another £500 court costs.
The court heard that Hussain, who was working for Bank Top Taxi and Private Hire in Great Horton, could no longer be employed as a cab driver because he now had a conviction for violence.
Mark Brookes, barrister for Hussain, said he had never been in trouble before.
He and Mr Ahmed had worked together and known one another for ten years.
Hussain had been married but the relationship broke down and he had met a new partner.
"Mr Ahmed goaded him and made personal comments and it boiled over," Mr Brookes said.
He regretted his actions and very remorseful.
Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC told him: "At your age, you know you should not have done this, hurting a former friend and colleague."
