A 45-year-old man has been arrested after six people, including an eight-year-old child, were shot dead during a murder spree in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Jason Dalton surrendered to police on Sunday morning after he allegedly opened fire at innocent and defenseless people during a five-hour rampage in his car.

He was arrested in a car that matched the description of the suspected shooter's, and there was a gun inside, according to reports.

Two people were injured at the three different locations he targeted -an apartment complex, a restaurant and a car dealership.

One of those wounded was a 14-year-old girl who was even pronounced dead at the hospital, but showed she was still alive by squeezing her mother's hand.

According to social media, Dalton is married and has children. Another post suggested he was an Uber driver who had been erratic while driving around passengers.

Reports suggest he was dropping off passengers in between shootings.

The suspect, from Kalamazoo county, reportedly gave up without struggle. He does not have a criminal history and has not suffered from mental illness in the past.

Multiple people died in shootings at the Cracker Barrel restaurant in Texas Township and at the Seelye Ford dealership, Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas told News 8.

Four people died at the restaurant, including an eight-year-old.

Police said the suspect exited his vehicle and shot people while they were sitting in their cars in the parking lot

He then shot and seriously injured a 14-year-old girl. According to prosecutors she was clinging to life on Sunday morning.

Previous reports suggested that she had died.

According to the Kalamazoo Gazette, the girl was pronounced dead at hospital, but then squeezed her mother's hand.

First Lt Dale Hinz said: 'She's in extremely critical condition but she's still clinging to life.'

A father and his 18-year-old son were killed at the car dealership, which is located four miles from the restaurant, police said.

A woman was seriously injured by multiple bullets in a shooting at 5:45pm near the Meadows Townhomes in Richland Township, according to News 8.

Kalamazoo shooting victim, 14, utters first word since Uber driver's rampage: 'pig,' a reference to her pet

The 14-year-old girl who was left with severe brain damage amid the Kalamazoo shooting spree has spoken her first word since the attack — “pig.”

Abigail Kopf was feared to be dead in the aftermath of the shooting last month in a Cracker Barrel parking lot, one of three sites where Uber driver Jason Dalton sprayed bullets during a rampage.

She is now on a long road to recovery and was able to make reference to her pet, a pig named Hamlet, in her first word since being shot.

Kopf’s family announced the “huge milestone” on aGoFundMepage for her medical expenses, and added that it has spurred hopes she will regain her speech.

At one point her parents had been making plans to donate their daughter’s organs until the teenager squeezed her mom’s hand, but the girl was able to go from the hospital to a rehab center this week.

Dalton killed six people in his shooting rampage on Feb. 20, including four older women with whom Kopf had gone to the restaurant after seeing a show.

Tiana Carruthers, a 26-year-old mother who put herself between Dalton and a group of playing children when he drove up to a housing complex, is also recovering after being hit by four bullets.

Carruthers was hit in both legs, but has begun to walk again and is expected to heal within 12 months, Borgess Medical Center chief of staff Thomas Rohs toldWOOD.

AGoFundMepage for Carruthers had raised $15,000 as of Saturday morning.

Uber driver accused of murdering six people claims the taxi app 'could control him'

Jason Dalton was working a night shift when he allegedly went on a deadly shooting rampage in Kalamazoo County, Michigan

Jason Dalton, 45, is accused of killing six people in a shooting spree in the northern US state of Michigan

An Uber driver accused of murdering six people claims the taxi app had the ability to "take over" his body, it's been reported.

Jason Dalton was working a night shift when he allegedly went on a deadly shooting rampage in Kalamazoo County, Michigan, last month.

The 45-year-old father-of-two told police during a police interview the Uber app would "literally take over" his body, according to report by the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department.

Dalton told police that when he would press a button on his phone screen, the horned cow head of a devil would appear and give him an assignment that he said would "literally take over" his body, WZZM reported.

"When I logged onto site (the Uber app), it started making me feel like a puppet," Dalton told police during an interview, according to the broadcaster.

WZZM reported that Dalton told his wife during the night of the shooting spree that she would not be able to go to work and their children would not be able to go to school, and that if she turned on the news, she would know why.

The police department provided WZZM-TV around 100 pages worth of documents related to the deadly rampage in response to a Freedom of Information Act request.

The Kalamazoo County Prosecuting Attorney's Office declined to release the documents when asked on Monday.

Dalton's attorney, Eusebio Solis, could not immediately be reached to comment.

Dalton is charged with shooting eight people, killing six of them, over a five-hour period on February 20, in between driving customers for the Uber car service in Kalamazoo, which is about 150 miles west of Detroit.

Police said last month that Dalton admitted to the shootings.

Prosecutors said earlier this month that a judge granted a request by Dalton's attorney for a competency exam.

Kalamazoo County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey Getting said weighing a person's competency to stand trial had no bearing on the person's criminal responsibility for a crime and that the move was not to determine whether Dalton was legally insane.

He faces 16 charges, including six of murder that can bring life in prison.

Driver Accused Of Murder Sues Uber For $10m

Jason Dalton claims the ride-sharing company "ripped" him off and would not let him spend time with his children.

A man who told police that a "devil figure" on the Uber app was controlling him when he allegedly killed six people in western Michigan is suing the ride-sharing company for $10m.

In a handwritten complaint, Jason Dalton claims he is "currently in prison because of Uber", but does not mention the shootings in Kalamazoo.

Dalton is accused of fatally shooting six people and wounding two others between picking up passengers for Uber in the city on 20 February.

In the lawsuit, filed in US District Court in Detroit, he claims the company "ripped" him off and failed to pay him back wages and overtime.

He wrote: "I busted my butt for them. They gave me no Christmas bonus, I wasn't invited to any corporate parties, they made me work when I was sick and didn't let me spend time with my two children.

"My life is ruined because of Uber. My wife is divorcing me because of Uber."

Uber has said Dalton began working for the company in January this year.

In a statement, it said: "It's hard to know how to respond to someone who refuses to take responsibility for his own actions.

"Our hearts go out to the victims' families who have to live with the consequences of his terrible crimes."

Dalton is charged with murder and attempted murder over the shootings, which took place in three separate locations in the city.

According to documents released by police on Monday, Dalton told investigators that when he opened the Uber app "a devil head popped up on his screen and when he pressed the button on the app, that is when all the problems started".

The 45-year-old has been ordered to undergo a mental competency exam.

It would appear that it is O.K. to issue a statement criticising someone for not accepting the responsibilities of their actions but deny responsibility for their(uber) own actions that have caused distress to users of the service.
