Wycombe's top police officer, Supt Ed McLean, warns 1,000 people could protest during planned EDL march in High Wycombe

Taxi drivers could be turned away from Wycombe Railway Station ahead of next week's EDL march.

EDL protesters are set to gather at Wycombe Railway Station ahead of town centre march

Taxi drivers could be turned away from Wycombe Railway Station next weekend as police prepare for hundreds of EDL protesters to arrive in the town.

Officers are keen to ensure the large protests are “peaceful” and not disruptive, but admit they might be forced to move taxi drivers away in case violence erupts.

There will be a large police presence in High Wycombe next Saturday when about 1,000 protesters visit the town for an EDL demonstration and police say they are aware of concerns from residents and businesses.

Chief inspector Rebecca Mears said: “There is naturally concerns from the community about what this will bring. It is the fear of the unknown.

“They are listening to reports of what happened elsewhere, which aren’t necessarily accurate reports.

“We have meetings arranged to advise taxi drivers, all the businesses, we’ve got liaisons with all the licenced premises, all the people who feel they might be affected in some way, shape or form.”

Between 150 and 200 EDL members are expected to visit the town on Saturday, April 9, and meet at Wycombe Railway Station before marching to Frogmoor.

In response to the demonstration, about nine other anti-EDL groups have arranged to join a counter protest.

In total, police are expecting more than 1,000 people to be involved in the event.

Wycombe policing area commander, superintendent Ed McLean, said: “We will look at things like taxi drivers at the railway station, it may be the planning is that that is not the right place for them and they need to go somewhere else.

“There will be work with British Transport Police and various others to educate around some of that.

“Once we know where groups are going, there might be somethings which need to change.”

If there's any English drivers in that town they'll make a killing that day.
