‘No evidence’ senior officer racially abused taxi driver A senior officer has been cleared of racially abusing a taxi driver, but has been given management advice as a result. Sussex Police Chief Superintendent Neil Honnor faced allegations of discreditable conduct after arguing with two taxi drivers while off duty in Eastbourne last September. Following an Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) investigation, Mr Honnor was made to face a misconduct hearing where it was recommended he be given management advice. Mr Honnor was suspended from duty last year, but his suspension was lifted on February 17. Temporary Deputy Chief Constable Robin Smith said the IPCC “found no evidence of any racist or criminal behaviour” in the way Mr Honnor acted. He added: “In finding the allegation to be proven and issuing management advice, the chair stated, as found by the IPCC, that there was no suggestion of racism. "We have taken this report seriously, seeking independent views, and feel the sanction is appropriate." However, a spokesperson confirmed that Mr Honnor’s role will be “considered” when some changes to senior officer positions take place in the coming weeks. source: http://www.policeprofessional.com/news.aspx?id=25882 |
