The sickening and obscene racist rant launched at a Cardiff taxi driver The appalling abuse is aimed at the driver by a man who admits in the footage he is a 'massive racist'
This is the moment a Cardiff taxi driver was subjected to a barrage of vile racist abuse by a passenger as he was driven home.
The footage shows the passenger insulting the cabbie, who is understood to be a Muslim, within seconds of the film beginning.
The man can be heard telling him “I f****** hate people like you” before saying “Come around and bomb me, I don’t give a f***”.
As he leaves the cab he turns and calls the driver a “black ****".
The camera is mostly pointed at the driver’s feet as it appears he tries to film what is happening without being noticed.
The man - who admits he is a “f***ing massive racist” - also tells the driver he will happily fight him.
Once he is out of the vehicle, the camera turns to him and reveals he is white, wearing a pink shirt, dark jacket and grey trousers. He appears to be holding a newspaper in one hand.
He then walks down the pavement before turning again to the driver to tell him to “f*** off".
Mathab Khan, chairman of Cardiff Hackney Carriages Association, said he was aware of the video but had not seen it. He said it sounded “absolutely horrendous".
“It is a major cause of concern for a lot of drivers,” he said.
“Taxi drivers are subjected not only to racism but also to Islamophobia. This is the reality of what is going in Cardiff, but it happens everywhere.”
He said he had contacted South Wales’ Police and Crime Commissioner, Alun Michael.
“I have explained that the guys are subjected to this and it happens all the time,” he said.
“There are cases where drivers have taken people and they have started off talking about Isis and asking if they are Muslim, and if they support the Taliban, and whether they support suicide bombers.
“The passengers may already have been drinking and are impossible to deal with.”.
He said the driver who filmed the video was a Muslim man in his mid 20s who wore a beard.
Muslim Council of Wales chairman Saleem Kidwai warned abuse like this was “on the increas".
He said: “Unless there is a zero tolerance towards this it will just keep on and on. Something like this should be dealt with severely.
“It is unacceptable and we have to deal with it.”
Weyman Bennett, of Unite Against Fascism, said: “Vindictive unwarranted attacks like this have no place in the 21st century.
“The driver should have the confidence to know that the majority of people support him and that these views do not reflect the majority.
“They should also feel able to come forward and get support to stamp out this level of discrimination.”
The video was posted on YouTube. South Wales Police have been approached.
