Rape claims against Liverpool taxi driver dropped after 'new material' came to light The Crown Prosecution Service has confirmed they are not proceeding with case against Lee Yuen, 36, from Old Swan Lee Yuen, 36, of Railbrook Hey, has had rape claims against him dropped after 'new material' came to light Rape allegations against a taxi driver accused of attacking a woman he was driving home from Liverpool city centre have been dropped. Lee Yuen was set to face trial for two counts of rape and one of sexual assault after denying the offences, said to have taken place last October. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has confirmed it has now stopped the case after “new material” came to light. Mr Yuen was arrested as part of an investigation into reports of a rape in the early hours of Sunday, October 9. The alleged incident was said to have happened in Aintree at around 3.45am, after the woman was picked up in Liverpool city centre. The 36-year-old, of Railbrook Hey in Old Swan, denied two counts of rape and one of sexual assault and was due to face trial at Liverpool Crown Court this week. However, the CPS has now confirmed the prosecution has been dropped. Senior Crown Prosecutor Caroline Ross, of Mersey-Cheshire Crown Prosecution Service, said: “The Crown Prosecution Service has a duty to continuously review all of our cases. “New material was recently brought to our attention in relation to this case and has now been assessed. We have concluded that, in the light of this new material, there is no longer a realistic prospect of a conviction and so the prosecution was stopped. “Our decision making has been explained to the victim both in person and in writing and she has also been made aware of the CPS’s Victim’s Right to Review process whereby she can ask for the decision to be reviewed.” Mr Yuen was banned from working as a taxi driver and ordered to serve a curfew when he appeared at South Sefton Magistrates’ Court in October. source: http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liv ... i-13015626 |

So the guy now has this allegation hanging over him for the rest of his life. I wonder what the "new material " is. They're still calling the woman involved the victim so there must be more to this than what we're hearing. Seems strange. |
