Nigel Rees, 49, of High Road, Cookham, fined £4,000 for racially abusing taxi driver A man from Cookham has been fined £4,000 for racially abusing a taxi driver.
Nigel Rees, 49, of High Road, used racial slurs during an argument with a taxi driver at a petrol station in Cookham Road on October 21 at around 2am.
He was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Thursday (May 11) after pleading guilty to one count of a racially aggravated public order offence.
Rees was ordered to pay a fine of £4,000, a victim surcharge of £170, costs of £1,500 and compensation to the victim of £1,500.
Investigating officer PC Peter Dorling, based at Maidenhead police station, said: “This case shows how seriously racism is taken in the Thames Valley and that we are committed to supporting victims of racist abuse and bringing those responsible to justice.
“No one should ever feel threatened or subjected to this kind of abuse, and I would like to commend the victim in this case for working with us in order to help secure this conviction.”
