STEVEN “Bonzo” Daniel was brutally stabbed in the face after being chased by two cars in Glasgow.

Bonzo – nephew of late crime boss Jamie Daniel – suffered horrific facial injuries in attack, which cops are treating as attempted murder.

Steven ‘Bonzo’ Daniel was stabbed close to the M8 in Glasgow
Detectives said the 37-year-old, who is stable in hospital, was pursued “at speed” by two cars as he drove a dark blue Skoda Octavia south on Saracen Street.

The vehicles chased him for around a mile to Craighall Road, close to an M8 slip road, where he was forced to stop.

An occupant of one of the cars then got out and launched the terrifying attack just after midnight on Thursday.

Emergency services raced to the raced and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment to facial wounds.

Medical staff have described his condition as stable.

Forensic teams are examining the scene
It was thought earlier that Bonzo had been shot, however police later confirmed the incident was a stabbing.

Detective Chief Inspector John Kennedy said: “Initially it was treated as a shooting but after expert examination of the car it’s been assessed it was an assault with a bladed weapon and not a firearm.

“The attending officers had established the windows were knocked out and from an initial ballistic examination, a shooting could not be ruled out.

“But in daylight and in a controlled environment, we have established it was a bladed weapon and not a firearm that was used.”

DCI Kennedy added: “We are at a very early stage in this inquiry but I do believe that this is a targeted attack and we are treating it as an attempted murder.

“I appreciate that people will automatically want to link this to other incidents in the past few months but until I know more, I am unable to confirm that is the case.

“Understandably, the local community and businesses will be concerned by this incident but I have a team of experienced detectives dedicated to this inquiry to establish the full circumstances.

“There are also high-visibility patrols by uniformed officers throughout the local area.

“What I would say is that I believe there are people in our communities who know who is responsible for this incident.

“There are brothers, sisters, parents and other family members who know exactly what is going on and who is behind it.

“This victim appears to have been targeted but he’s also someone’s son and if there are people out there who know anything about who is responsible, I would urge them to do the right thing and contact us.”
