cue trotsky A MACHYNLLETH man who suffered a serious brain injury after being hit by a taxi while crossing the road has won significant compensation. Gareth Jones, a former train driver, was hospitalised after he was hit by the vehicle while crossing the A489 near Penygoes during a night out with his brother in December 2013. He needs life-long care after he was left with reduced mobility and needing support for tasks such as cooking. The taxi driver involved in the incident was never charged with any motoring offence and denies all responsibility for the incident. But Gareth and his partner Tracey were awarded a six-figure out-of-court settlement after being backed by train driver union ASLEF, who appointed Thompsons Solicitors. Tracey said: “This collision has turned our entire world upside-down. Gareth went out that night with his brother, but came home a completely different person. “I’m not sure if Gareth will ever be able to return to work, but the settlement that Thompsons and ASLEF secured for us means that we can move to a house better suited to his needs, which I hope will give him more independence in the future.” |

In that case why did the insurers pay out? If someone brings misfortune upon themselves through their own stupidity or carelessness it's not fair that those who have to pay High Insurance premiums should be paying out for it. |
