A driver has been instantly dismissed following allegations that a woman was assaulted with a hose after a crash at a petrol station in Cheltenham this morning.

Police had been called to the Shell garage near Waitrose, in Cheltenham, after receiving reports that a woman was assaulted by a driver in a Dial-a-Cab vehicle with a water hose and got wet.

Company owner Graham Foley said he heard about the alleged incident, at the garage off Honeybourne Way, confronted a driver at his home address then took away his keys and dismissed him on the spot.

Cheltenham Borough Council, which licenses taxi and private hire drivers, has also been notified of the alleged incident.

A police spokesman said: “It is reported that shortly after 10am there was a damage-only collision at the location involving a silver Chevrolet and a blue Peugeot following which a man assaulted a woman with a water hose causing her to get wet.

“Officers are studying CCTV of the alleged incident to establish what happened and who was involved.”

Mr Foley said it was a “dark day” for his company, which specialises in providing a taxi service for people in wheelchairs, and he was almost in tears about the allegation.

“He was not working for us at the time but he had our company logo on his vehicle," he said.

“I tell drivers that everywhere they go in our vehicles, whether they are working or not, that they are representing the company.

“I am very proud of our company which I have built up over six-and-a-half years and I could cry about this.

“It is a dark day for us.”

an owner that cares wow
