A taxi driver drove two passengers to the police station when they said they were short of the £6.80 fare.
Sophie Heath and Yeva Wilcox, both 18, had been out clubbing in Newcastle-under-Lyme and took a cab home.

But when they got home at 3am, they realised they were short of 60p.
They asked the Intercity Private Hire driver he would let them off the fare – but things then escalated.

He asked them to go inside and wake up Sophie’s parents to get the extra cash, according to the teenagers, accusing them of ‘making fun of him’.

The driver was not happy

They posted about what happened on Snapchat on Friday, with cry laugh emojis saying: ‘It’s 60p, you’re not going to die from 60p.’
But the driver didn’t see the funny side, saying: ‘For me it’s not 60 f****** p’ according to the Daily Mail.

After the 60p was not forthcoming, he drove to the nearest police station to try and get them to pay up.

He kept telling us he was going to die because of 60p and was quite upset about it,’ Sophie told the paper.
‘The police weren’t bothered so he told us to get out of his taxi about a 20-minute walk from my house and drove off.’

Metro.co.uk has contacted Intercity Private Hire for comment.

If might be funny taking the p*** over 60p, but what kind of a family can't dig out 60p?

More to this than meets the eye.

To my way of thinking it is not (actually) about the 60p - it becomes a point of principal, unfortunately followed by anger that the trust that you give them, has been thrown back in your face. Of course the police do not help by giving out the message that it is ok to rip off taxi drivers........"Give them an inch - and they will take a mile"......so true imo.

Get over it, we've all endured far worse in the trade.

Unfortunately, it is that kind of attitude that make things worse for drivers. If they get away with 60p this week, how much will it be next week or how much was it last week? Then they tell their mates that they got away with it and then they do the same.
Why should we let punters take the pi55?

It's a couple of silly girls and 60p for heavens sake. I bet he wouldn't have made such a fuss if it had been some big evil roughnecks. Contrary to spreading the word how they saved 60p by getting one over , now they'll be spreading the word what tight arsed and childish pussies drive taxis.

So where do YOU draw the line if a punter doesn't payany or all the fare? £1.00, £5.00, £10.00, £50.00?

Fraud Act 2006. "Obtaining services dishonestly" Section 11.

It is abundantly clear that an offence was committed when payment was not made in full.

The police are wrong in not pursuing this matter and should be brought to task over it.

We in this trade can do without the stupid remarks made by some, you use the service you pay the going rate in full for doing so.They do not have a defence inthis matter and could face 12 months in prison on being found guilty.

The driver accepted part payment. That could be why the police took no action.

His dicking around cost him a lot more than 60p.

Do love principled taxi drivers.

Grandad, obviously £50 is worth the argument, but to lock young girls in his car for 60p? And then waste a crap load of valuable earning time and then going bleating to the cops over a measly 60p! This ain't anything to do with his principles, he was just smarting cos they were taking him for a ride!

Best way to sort matter is for all local firms to just blank the address, mobile number and punters.

Very rarely happens, but when it does it has an effect.

I know a driver who is a millionaire on paper who waited for a women to go in and get 20p
to make up a £4.50 fare. She always gives £5, never used him again.

Why did she need to get another 20p to make up the £4.50p fare if she always gave £5,I think maybe this is a made up story.
