Javeed Iqbal has been ordered to pay more than £650 after he was taken to court for not having the correct licence to pick up fares in South Cheshire.
The defendant, of Coronation Street, Tunstall, was spotted on a hackney carriage stand in Swine Street, Nantwich.
Another driver – properly licensed by Cheshire East Council who does not wish to be named – used his dashboard camera in his taxi to record Iqbal’s Stoke-on-Trent licence plate.

He then forwarded the information to the authority’s enforcement team.
Iqbal went on to plead guilty to the offence of unlawfully plying for hire within Cheshire East borough and a second charge of allowing his vehicle to wait in a designated Hackney Carriage stand.
The defendant was fined £133 for each offence by South Cheshire Magistrates at Crewe. He was also ordered to pay £600 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
Cheshire East Council today thanked the taxi driver for providing his ‘dash cam’ footage to help trap an unlicensed operator.
