Angry residents: 'Stop taxi drivers parking on this street and peering through our windows!'

https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/news/st ... rs-1736191

Families in Drubbery Lane, Blurton, are fed up with taxi drivers using the road as an unofficial rank

Angry residents are calling for extra parking restrictions outside their homes – to stop taxis drivers pulling up and peering through their windows.

Families living on Drubbery Lane, Blurton, are fed up with cabbies flouting the law by parking on double yellow lines outside their properties.

They say the drivers are using the stretch of road near the junction with Stradbroke Drive as an unofficial taxi rank and claim they go to sleep in their cars, throw food out the window and use the road as a toilet.

And they sat some cabbies are even looking into their homes.

A petition has now been presented to Stoke-on-Trent City Council calling for yellow kerb tags – which prohibit loading and unloading – to be put down and for signs to be put up to stop the cabbies parking up there.

John Wrench, aged 66, of Monkton Close, Blurton, who organised the petition, said: “The taxi drivers totally ignore the yellow lines. They go asleep in their taxis and they throw food out of their windows. They get out and relieve themselves around the back of the taxis.

“You cannot see when you try to turn on to Drubbery Lane because they park on the corner. And it is dangerous when you try to turn into Stradbroke Drive.

“The residents have had enough. It is an absolute disgrace. We fall out with the taxi drivers all the time. They just look at you like you are an idiot. But they are making it really dangerous.

“They ignore the double yellow lines. The petition is to get double yellow kerb markings which means no unloading or loading at any time.”

Jacqueline Bell, aged 75, of Drubbery Lane, added: “I do not like the fact the taxis park outside my house. They are flouting the double yellow lines which were put in at a cost. The lady next door is aged 86. She went out to them and they gave her a load of verbal abuse.

“There are plenty of places where they could park. My son worked for a taxi firm and he had to go back to the base. The base for these drivers is just up the road.”

I get the p***ing complaints, and the litter complaints, and the peeping complaints, but the vast majority are merely waiting for a job.

All that said, I suspect there are plenty other places to wait other than on double yellow lines in a residential area.

I used the word get, in terms of understanding, not in terms of receiving.

Whatever the confusion, at least he said 'peeing' in the street and 'peering' through the windows, and not the other way round
