North-east man fined for violent attack on taxi driver over payment dispute https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/ne ... t-dispute/ A man has been fined for attacking a taxi driver outside Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after getting involved in a dispute over payment methods. Callum Hogg was picked up along with friends on Union Street on May 12 this year and, after they were dropped off elsewhere, asked driver Hing Kwan to take him to accident and emergency. Mr Kwan said he had to pay by cash, but Hogg disputed this. As a result, Hogg punched him multiple times to the head and face including while he was beneath him on the ground. The attack only came to an end when a police officer came out of the hospital and arrested him. The 19-year-old confessed to the assault during an earlier appearance in Aberdeen Sheriff Court where he returned yesterday to be sentenced. Fiscal depute Karen Dow told the court there was no record of the injuries Mr Kwan had sustained. She added that there were multiple signs in the taxi indicating that a cash payment was required. Hogg, who elected to represent himself, claimed the taxi driver had started it and had pulled him to the ground and held him as he tried to get away. Sheriff Philip Mann fined Hogg, of Middleton Crescent, £400. |
