Well the h-word is avoided here, but the headline is arguably worse But pretty ridiculous article - as if any of this will enable 99% of taxi users to evaluate the h..., er, I mean increase But, roughly speaking, looks like the running mile increases are modest. But the flagfall fares are going up quite a bit and at the same time the flagfall distance is decreasing by quite a big margin. (But because the flagfall distances are currently the thick end of a mile, and will still exceed one kilometre after the changes, then to the extent that the flagfall distances are quite substantial, short trips in Stoke don't look particularly expensive.) So effectively the fares on the bread and butter runs of a mile or two will be going up substantially, but not so noticeable on longer trips. But effectively zero chance of the average reader being able to work that out... And, I mean, the yardages (in metres ) are stated to two decimal places And 15p increments on T1 - why don't they just used 20p increments and adjust the yardages (in metres) accordingly Taxi fares are going up in Stoke-on-Trent - here's the damage https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/news/st ... ke-6637016 Stoke-on-Trent City Council has agreed to change the table of fares for Hackney carriages Taxi fares are set to rise in Stoke-on-Trent. Stoke-on-Trent City Council has agreed to revise the table of fares for Hackney carriages licensed by the authority, following an application to amend the current rates. The changes, which include increases to the standard charges, waiting times and fouling charges, are due to come into effect on March 1. Here is a rundown of the new charges (all exclusive of VAT): Standard charges Rate 1 Passengers are currently charged £3 for up to 1,316.73 metres, and then 15p for every 146.3 metres over this. This will increase to £3.50 for up to 1,073.3 metres, and then 15p for every 134.1 metres over this. Rate 2 (for hirings between 10pm and 6am, hirings on Sundays and bank holidays, and for hirings for five passengers or more) Passengers are currently charged £4 for up to 1,316.73 metres, and then 20p for every 146.3 metres over this. This will increase to £4.50 for up to 1,073.3 metres, and then 20p for every 134.1 metres over this. Extra charges Waiting times The charge will increase from 10p for every 40 seconds to 20p for every minute. Fouling charge The surcharge for fouling of a vehicle will increase from £35 to £50. Anyone wishing to object to the new table of fares should submit their objection by February 28 to hcp.licensing@stoke.gov.uk, with the subject 'taxi fare increase', or Licensing Services, Stoke-on-Trent City Council, C/o The Weighbridge Lodge, Cromer Road, Northwood, Stoke-on-Trent, ST1 6QN. |

That is quite a long run-in for the flag, even the proposed flag. Down here it's 293 yards.
