In Leeds he would have been revoked, presumably? :-o

So got off pretty lightly here. No word of any prosecution either.

Usual lecture by the licensing chair, though [-(

Private hire driver caught pirating in Glasgow

https://www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/sco ... g-glasgow/

A private hire driver who was caught picking passengers up from the street has been banned from working for two weeks.

Mr Zafarullah was warned he “could have lost everything” after he was seen ‘pirating’ in the city centre.

Enforcement officers from Glasgow City Council spotted Mr Zafarullah accept two customers, who hadn’t pre-booked, outside The Garage nightclub on Sauchiehall Street.

Only black hackney taxis can pick up passengers off the street, while private hire drivers who do so are invalidating their insurance.

Councillor Alex Wilson, who chairs the city’s licensing committee, said ‘pirating’ is the “scourge of Glasgow”.

He added: “You should have said to the gentleman and the woman that approached your car, ‘I’m sorry I cannot pick you up, you have to phone or you have to go and get a black cab.’ “If you had an accident, they could have sued you for everything you have got. You could have lost everything. That is the seriousness of pirating in Glasgow.”

An enforcement officer told councillors how one of the people who had approached the driver’s car had confirmed they had not booked in advance.

Mr Zafarullah said he had been “very frustrated” after a night of “no shows.”

He said: “This is by no means an excuse for what I did on the night in question,” adding he had no previous complaints.

Councillor Wilson said: “You were about to pick up passengers and put them into your vehicle, do you know the minute they step into your vehicle your insurance isn’t valid?

“You were willing to take a risk where if you have an accident you would not be insured, and you’re putting your passengers at risk, your own livelihood at risk.”

Councillors decided to suspend the driver for two weeks with immediate effect.

Glasgow always seems to have a pretty lax attitude to offending of all kinds !

Save it for the folks in the pulpit.

Private hire cab driver 'sorry' after failing to admit speeding offence in Lanarkshire town

https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/in-your-a ... y-29417279

Zafer Orak, 43, was fined £130 and got three points on his licence in 2019 for driving at 43mph in a 30mph zone in Rutherglen.

A cab driver who sped in a Lanarkshire town has apologised after failing to admit he was convicted for the offence to licensing officials.

Zafer Orak was fined £130 and got three points on his licence in 2019 for driving at 43mph in a 30mph zone in Rutherglen during September 2018.

While the 43-year-old was applying for the renewal of his private hire car driver’s licence on Wednesday, police informed the licensing and regulatory committee about his record.

Chair councillor Alex Wilson, of the SNP, asked Orak why he hadn't mentioned the conviction during his licence renewal application, or notified the licensing department about it.

Saying he had made a “mistake,” Mr Orak replied: “I apologise, I’m sorry.”

When asked why he was speeding, he said he was running late.

Councillor Wilson said: “You are a private hire driver. Regardless of whether you are late you don’t speed around the city. You could have crashed your car or caused an accident.”

He warned Mr Orak he has a “lot of things to learn” if his licence is granted.

After leaving the room to consider the case and a number of others, councillors decided to grant Mr Orak’s licence but issued a warning about his future conduct.
