Not clear precisely what the driver did here, but seems at the lower end of trade menaces, yet the council makes it sound like they've taken a John Worboys or mass terrorist off the road.

Can't be much happening there, by the looks of it :?

Council acts to promote customer confidence by stripping taxi driver of licence

https://www.lincolnshireworld.com/news/ ... ce-4067655

A taxi driver has had their licence to operate as a hire driver revoked after being considered to pose an increased risk to public safety.

North Kesteven District Council’s General Licencing Sub Committee took the action against the unnamed driver and the authority says its tough stance illustrates the importance of it’s role in ensuring compliance with measures intended to protect the public.

In December 2022 a licencing sub-committee was told that the driver – who two years earlier had been convicted of driving without dure care and attention – had committed two further Road Traffic Offences.

The decision was taken to revoke the driver’s Hire Driver Licence after determining that he was no longer a ‘fit and proper person’ to hold such a licence and that he posed an increased risk to public safety.

An appeal was lodged at the time, which meant that the sub-committee’s decision was suspended, but now that that appeal has been withdrawn prior to a court hearing, the original decision has been enacted.

David Steels, the council’s Assistant Director of Environment and Public Protection, said it was important that people booking a private hire vehicle, hailing a cab or engaged in any sort of licenced activity such as going to a pub or entertainment venue, had confidence in the processes which keep them safe and such tough action was hoped to promote confidence.

He said: “While we seek to work with those for whom driving for hire, selling alcohol or operating any sort of licensed activity is their business, to ensure the highest possible standards and levels of compliance; it is essential that everyone knows that we will not hesitate to act where it is necessary to do so in the interests of public safety. In the last year alone, we revoked or refused 15 licences for various reasons where we had concerns over public safety and compliance.”

Be nice to know what those offences were.

If they were not wearing a seat belt or dodgy bulbs, then the fella has been hard done by IMO.

But if it was doing 60 in a 30 and no insurance then well done to the council.

A bit more detail here, Sussex. The speeding hardly seems the worst, so it's probably as much about the dishonesty. Anyway, sort of thing that's right up your street... :-o

But someone has obviously been reading the council minutes :!:

Speeding driver who posed "increased risk to public safety" loses private hire licence

https://www.lincolnshirelive.co.uk/news ... ed-8262552

There was a lot going on in their personal life at the time which affected their judgement.

A driver has had their private hire licence revoked after twice speeding on the way to collect a passenger following a decision that their conduct posed an increased risk to public safety. North Kesteven District Council's licensing sub-committee was told that the unnamed driver – who two years earlier had been convicted of driving without dure care and attention – had committed two further road traffic offences.

Minutes from the meeting state the "trusted" driver with long standing clients received a Notice of Impending Prosecution(s) but another person was nominated as the driver of the vehicle at the times in question, which was subsequently found to be untrue.

The licence holder was then invited to address the sub-committee and their representative said "there had been a lot going on in their personal life at the time which affected their judgement" and what had happened was very out of character for them.

The driver received a formal police caution in connection with the incidents, and the speeding offences were referred back to the courts for consideration. The committee was told the driver had not reported the police caution to the council as it had slipped their mind due to issues in their personal life at the time.

The committee also heard that the person drove at 34mph in a 30mph limit area and 66/68mph in a 60mph limit area as they were "rushing to a job and did not have a passenger in the car at the time".

Members decided to revoke the driver’s hire driver licence after determining that he was no longer a ‘fit and proper person’ to hold such a licence and that he posed an increased risk to public safety. An appeal was lodged at the time, which meant that the sub-committee’s decision was suspended, but now that that appeal has been withdrawn prior to a court hearing, the original decision made last December, has been enacted.

[I've left off the last three paragraphs of the press article, which are just from the council's press release at the top of the thread.]

He is lucky he hasn't been imprisoned.

If the officer wasn't feeling generous by giving him a chance to reflect on the truthfullness of his first reply, then he would have been charged with perverting the cause of justice, and that more times than not leads to prison.
