Hove Uber driver surprises passengers with his Tesla car https://www.theargus.co.uk/news/2340967 ... tesla-car/ ![]() An Uber driver often stops people in their tracks when they see the car he drives. Yilmaz Tetik, from Hove, says people are fascinated by his new Tesla car, which is a rare sight in the city. Mr Tetik, who has been working as a private hire driver for two and half years, says there are only two other Tesla private hire vehicles working in the Brighton and Hove area. Tesla is an American electric vehicle company founded by billionaire Elon Musk, who is also chief executive of social media platform Twitter. “Ninety per cent of the time people say this is the first time they’ve been in a Tesla,” he said. “It’s an unusual sight. “People say they weren’t expecting it.” The driver said passengers are often bemused when they go to get into the back of the car, which has no door handles. “People are really interested in it,” he said. “They’re fascinated by the car. "It's a fun car to drive." The 52-year-old bought the electric car, which is the second electric vehicle he has had, two months ago and he says he would never go back to a regular car. “I’m loving it,” he said. “And so are my customers. “I will stick with electric cars. “I wouldn’t go back. “I’m ranked five star as an Uber driver in the Brighton area. “My car is clean and my customers are very happy with the car and how I treat them. “I treat people how I would like to be treated.” One aspect of the car that delights and surprises customers is the car's fart noise feature. Mr Tetik often uses the amusing feature with the permission of parents when there are children on board. “I can make the back seat make a fart sound,” said Mr Tetik. “It makes people really laugh.” The electric car, as well as proving to be a hit with customers, is also more economical, Mr Tetik said. “SWhen I take London trips I don’t have to pay the ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) charge or the congestion charge,” he said. “I think it’s a good way to go.” |

Quote: https://www.theargus.co.uk/news/23409677.hove-uber-driver-surprises-passengers-tesla-car/ Don't think the comments are too complimentary and suggesting he funds the motor by picking up and dropping off things other than punters.

Plated by Chichester District Council, according to the full res photo https://www.theargus.co.uk/resources/images/16593747 Correct me if I'm wrong, but he's going through Arun District Council, Worthing Borough Council and Adur District Council to get to B&H What's the attraction of Chichester? He lives there, or an easy licensing regime, or just an Uber thing? |

Quote: What's the attraction of Chichester? He lives there, or an easy licensing regime, or just an Uber thing? He lives in Hove, but the attraction of Chichester is they license anything that moves and don't have to worry about any enforcement action as they never see the driver or vehicle ever again. Until relicensing that is.

It should not be licensed according to Chichester Borough Council vehicle specification. |

£43k assuming he doesn't have the autopilot stuff where it would bring it up to £49k (+£475 for the home charger ex installation). Who in their right minds would spend that much on a vehicle to work the streets. If you were doing more specialist work, airport runs etc maybe, but picking up the general public ![]() Another option you could understand would be if you already had the car and your circumstances changed and you became a PHD, but he only got this I assume in December new as that was when it was first registered and he's been in the job several years. Premier up here have just bought a Series Y (might be a couple of them), but it mainly does airport runs, but will also do street work apparently. |

Can only agree with what you say re Mr Tesla, but an interesting clash of terminology here In the trade context, 'working the streets' to me is an informal description of public hire work (ie ranks and hailing). To that extent, a private hire vehicle can't 'work the streets'. For example, most HCDs here in NE Fife are attached to some kind of despatch operation. But I often say to other drivers that I prefer to 'work the streets'

I agree, my mistake, I meant more along the lines of dealing with the general public rather than a more specialist/targeted jobs. |
