I seen one last week in Glasgow operating out of George Square....no private hire plates just like the limos ! Found this on Google http://rickshawforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=322 They seem to think all that's required is a street traders licence ! |

Don't know where to start.
It looks like the LTDA were right in their actions against the pedicabs.
But having two tiers of hackney drivers does seem a step too far.

Its a joke, but then Newcastle started it a few months back. If it takes of in the Capital, start counting the weeks before the great unwashed arrive on your doorsteps with their unsafe contraptions. Well done TFL, just what we need, helps the 24/7 gridlock no end.

It's just a PR exercise. If you examine the PCO's bible - the London Cab Order 1934, you will find in the defintion of terms that non mechanically propelled vehicles are grouped together with Horse Cabs, and can be licensed in the same manner. |

I hope their PR machinery is in place when the first person dies in a 'licensed pedicab'. Lets hope the unfortunate persons family sue TFL for licensing them in the first place. They know their not safe, but hey what does that matter?

It's a bloody joke! The problem is though it isn't.
Those bikes are here to stay, and they need some sort of licensing. As the 1998 and 1976 PH acts don't allow for non-motorised vehicles, it's down to the taxi acts that do.

If they are going to be allowed on the road, then they do need to be licensed, the problem is, and GBC will support me on this one, is they are a bloody menace!!. They ride in the middle of the road and if you get stuck behind one they won't move over. Also, and this won't be popular, most are driven by foriegner's who can't speak a word of english. |

I don't think many on here are fans of these things, and most would agree they are a f***ing nuisance.
But if they are licensed then it will be easy for the 'powers that be' to ensure they adhere to proper licensing conditions. And if some of them are in line with taxi conditions, then we can all but hope.
