HEADLINE: Taxi driver's attack agony

A cabbie was beaten up and robbed by two passengers.

They boarded the taxi at 1am, yesterday, in Grey Street, Newcastle, and asked to be taken to Ellison Main Gardens, on Stoneygate Estate, Felling, Gateshead.

When the taxi parked opposite the rear of the Jet Garage, on the Felling By Pass, the driver was grabbed and punched.

A police spokesman said: "Not being satisfied with the cash handed over by the driver, the front seat passenger went through his pockets and a further amount was stolen. The two men then ran off.

"The victim has sustained bruising to the face and a possible broken nose."

His attackers are white, in their 30s, with short dark hair. One is between 5ft 4ins and 5ft 6ins and stockily built. His accomplice is between 5ft 10in and 6ft, average build and wore glasses.
