This requires careful reading, and at times reads like a taxi driver/passenger scenario rather than road rage.

But seems like the taxi driver played the race card, and got punched in the face for his troubles ](*,)

And hardly surprising that there's a lot of scepticism about the 67 stitches in the comments :-o

Road rage attack sees man punch taxi driver in the face

Adrian Jones, 37, of Norton, left his victim needing 67 stitches

Aggressive Adrian Jones punched a taxi driver in the face in a road rage attack. The 37-year-old got out of the passenger seat of the car and pushed the cabbie during a stand-off.

The victim then returned to his driver's seat, but Jones followed and hit him in the face before running away. North Staffordshire Justice Centre tensions had arisen after the cabbie asked Jones' partner - who was driving - to 'move back'.

The attack left the victim needing 67 stitches to his cut lip. He also needed two weeks off work while he recovered.

Now Jones has been handed an 18-month community order. Prosecutor Suzanne Swindail said the incident happened at 2.30pm on January 16, 2022 when the victim pulled up in Adderley Road, Norton.

Miss Swindail said: "It is a narrow street. Another vehicle pulled in ahead of the taxi driver's car. He asked the defendant if he could move back.

"He said, 'I am not moving, you move back'. Jones got out of the car and got close to the taxi driver. The taxi driver said, 'Are you not moving because this is your country?'

"He thought the defendant was being racist and had more of a right of the road than he did. The defendant became aggressive. He pushed him in the chest and pushed him around.

"The taxi driver went to his car and sat in the driver's seat. He felt a punch to the right side of his face. The defendant ran away.

"The taxi driver felt dizzy and was bleeding from a cut to his lip. He called the police and went to the Haywood Hospital. He received 67 stitches to a deep cut in his top lip."

In a victim statement, the cabbie said: "I had two weeks off work and was not paid. It is not right that this has happened."

Jones told police the taxi driver was verbally abusive. He admitted punching him once. Jones, of Pinfold Avenue, Norton, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Paige Morgan, mitigating, said Jones was not the driver. She said: "The victim was saying, 'Why are you not moving?' Jones's partner was driving. He accused Jones of being a racist by saying, 'Are you not driving because this is your country?'

"The victim accepts approaching their vehicle. Jones accepts he got out. He had a child in the car. He attempted to defuse the situation.

"He was accused of being racist. That angered him. It was a spontaneous decision. He expresses remorse, through me, today."

As part of the community order Jones must complete a rehabilitation activity requirement for up to 20 days and 100 hours unpaid work. He was ordered to pay £150 compensation to his victim, £185 costs and a £114 surcharge.
