Police are appealing for information after an 18-year-old woman was sexually assaulted after getting into a taxi as she attempted to walk home from Oxford to Abingdon. The girl had been drinking in Oxford and had no money in order to get home so decided to walk home to Abingdon on her own. At around 2.30am on Wednesday 12 July the woman was walking along the Abingdon Road near to the Head of the River public house when a silver or white four door saloon car with a taxi sign on the roof stopped. The driver, an Asian man, asked her if she needed a taxi and said that he would take her home even though she told him that she did not have any money to pay for the journey. The victim got in and the man began to drive towards Abingdon, however, he stopped twice on the journey home, once in a lay-by in Kennington and again in Thrupp Lane in Radley. On both occasions the man sexually assaulted the victim. The man then continued to drive and finally let the girl out of the car in Fieldside in Abingdon at around 3.30am. The girl returned home and contacted police at 4am. Det Con Chris Leech, of Abingdon CID, said: “This was a very worrying incident in which a vulnerable young woman was picked up by a man in what would seem to be a taxi. “We do not know whether this was a licensed vehicle or whether it was part of a company, however, we do know what time the girl was picked up and that the car stopped twice on the journey to Abingdon. “I would like to hear from anyone who may have been in the area around this time and who saw a taxi, maybe parked up, or simply any similar vehicle which may have looked suspicious. “We are working closely with the victim to give her support and as part of our investigation have undertaken forensic tests and spoken to a number of residents in the area and now I need to also ask the general public for their assistance. “I must also ask people to ensure they take care of themselves and their friends or family. Always arrange how you are going to get home before going out, drink responsibly, stick with your friends and only use licensed taxi companies.” |

Wouldn't it be easier to catch if it was an out of towner? Ollie |

. . . . and lets face it, they're hard to get hold off. Have a little search on E-Bay for roof signs and see how many appear. Touts'r'us do a good line. |
