HEADLINE: Firm signs up a star
Torbay Taxis have driven through a deal to buy up Star Taxis.
The takeover is part of an ongoing expansion programme by Torbay Taxis, which is looking at buying two more cab firms this year, as well as opening in Brixham. If all goes to plan, Torbay Taxis will increase its number of drivers from 137 to more than 170 by Christmas. Torbay Taxis is thought to be the oldest taxi firm in the Bay, while Star is the second oldest.
Paul Filby, owner of Torbay Taxis, said: "I used to work for Star, so things have come full circle. "Star will now no longer exist, but I'm talking to the drivers at Star to see who wants to work for us. "I always need drivers. If our expansion continues, that means I'll be advertising for more drivers.
"These are exciting times. When I started I thought 50 or 60 drivers would be enough, but we're so busy now. We did 13,000 jobs last week. That's a lot of work."
