Brentwood Gazette August 16, 2006 Wednesday HEADLINE: Whitehall praises police's anti-social behaviour blitz A Three-month blitz on anti- social behaviour and alcohol- fuelled violence in Romford, which cut crime in the town by a third, has been praised by the Home Office. Extra funding has now been secured for the scheme, which was managed by the Havering Community Safety Partnership. The Respect in Romford campaign, piloted between January and March, also reduced the fear of crime in the town by three-quarters. It saw hundreds of extra police officers patrol the town centre at weekends, tighter enforcement of no-alcohol zones and taxis being marshalled in North Street. "The taxi marshal scheme has secured further funding. No-alcohol zones were also enforced and a taxi marshalling scheme was used to improve safety around the taxi rank and disperse people more rapidly. Marshals and police officers covered the rank at weekends between 10.30pm and 3.30am, arranging more than 9,000 journeys for 14,000 passengers. ............................................................................ |

Hmmmmm There is no rank in North St, The marshalled scheme was in Eastern Road and has now stopped. Frankly it was a waste of time, Not sure exactly what the purpose of the Marshals was as I was still having to turn punters away for trying to get in with kebabs etc. Also it slowed down the rank in busy times as only 2 cabs were being loaded at a time. Marshalls No thanks! |
