Nothing particularly out of the ordinary here in terms of what was found, except perhaps the highlighted paragraph. And not clear precisely why the other council involved was NE Derbyshire. According to Google it's based in Wingerworth, which I've never heard of Maybe firms working in Sheffield use cross-border cars plated there... And note the rogue use of the r-word half way down the piece. Indeed, at the kick off it simply says vehicles and drivers were *suspended*, which sounds more realistic for a roadside operation. Sheffield taxi operation carried out to create safer roads https://www.southyorkshire.police.uk/ne ... fer-roads/ A recent road safety operation focussing on the safety of taxis in Sheffield city centre has led to the suspension of drivers and vehicles as we continue to strive for safe roads. Driving a vehicle is a great responsibility and all road users have a role in reducing fatal and serious collisions on our roads. The joint operation between road policing officers and enforcement officers from both Sheffield City Council and North-East Derbyshire Council was held on Penistone Road last Friday (8 May) with the teams checking the safety of vehicles being used for taxiing, and the documents of drivers working. During the operation 33 cars were stopped and checked. Of those, two drivers had their vehicle licences revoked and their vehicles prohibited from being driven due to the safety of their tyres. The tyres were found to have no tread, with one having cord exposed. One of the drivers was also found to be wanted for driving offences. Six drivers were issued traffic offence reports, after vehicles were found to have defect seatbelts and lights. Complying with all regulations, and passing checks on their vehicles, 16 drivers were thanked for their co-operation and officers explained the reason why we are conducting the checks. Leading the work on the operation, Roads Policing Officer PC Sam Cooper said: “As roads policing officers we sadly see the devastating consequences of road traffic collisions. “Telling a family their loved one has died is one of the worse parts of our job and reminds us why the work we do to create safer roads is so vitally important. “These operations are not about targeting those working on the roads, they are about people taking action, changing their behaviours and ultimately saving lives. “The majority of collisions could have been avoided by responsible driving and/ or safe vehicles. While you can’t be responsible or everyone’s actions, you can your own, and I urge all road users to do their part.” |

And note, as per usual, the different emphasis - from the headline on - in the Sheffield Star's rehash Police stop 33 taxis in Sheffield as unsafe vehicles taken off the road https://www.thestar.co.uk/news/police-t ... wn-8548372 Unsafe taxis taken off Sheffield roads during joint police operation |
