I do understand your reservations but I'm pretty sure you can complain anon to the min-wage inspectors. Clearly if you are the only one, bar the boss, in the office, then it wont be very anon.
Perhaps you could say you are an operator in another office, and when the boss sees them getting visited he might mend his ways.

Controllers job; Answer the phones. Responsible for earning 20/30/40/50 etc etc drivers thier money. Responsible for making sure bookings, pick ups etc go out on time. Responsible for making sure drivers don't run past work. Responsible for making sure account customers get thier cars on time. Have to deal with complaints from customers. Work weekends/nights. Basically, run the office on thier shift. Owners still want to pay as little as possible. I am lucky, I get a reasonable wage, £10ph, 12 hour shifts, 4 on, 4 off, but, this is because I will not let my boss pay me any less, if he trys to, I go back on the road full time, and he knows it. |

Sad to see another taking the pi**. Somethings just never change. I did offer advice Firstly, the employer is probably breaking the law as the minimum wage isnt being paid. Secondly, the employer will probably give the person the boot if he complains. What I'd like to know is why a person, with such an obvious complaint, regarding the minimum wage would want to come on this website as opposed to contacting the Inland Revenue. http://www.direct.gov.uk/Employment/Emp ... chk=00/jcP regards CC |

I pay £5.50 an hour and at that rate it's hard to get and keep dispatchers and believe me our fares and board rents are a lot lower than over there I haven't been able to put the board rent up for over 8 years but if you don't pay a good enough wage you won't have any staff so how are they able to get them to work for that ? |

If you pay £5.50 per hour, i'm not surprised its hard to get and keep dispatchers. I am not blowing my own trumpet here, but I honestley belive a day controller should be on £10ph, and a night controller on £15ph. The grief we have to put up with warrants those rates. As long as employers can get away with £5.50ph, the will. |

The difference is London as opposed to Stamford, we pay 6.00 per hour to our controllers but I agree the job is worth a lot more. |

Another thing you have to consider with controllers wages is are they PAYE or self employed. Most of the companies in london are self employed, I would love to go PAYE but I would then be entilted to paid holidays and breaks during my shift, when i'm on a break who would do the controlling?. |

When it comes to office staff's rights, I'm not that up on them, but I would be really surprised if the 'powers that be' would accept office staff as being classed a self-employed.
