Obviously no word of what happened here. But I'd guess almost everything carried on pretty much as normal. As will Veezu's 20% commission rate

Anyway, on a lighter note I'm not sure if 'walk-out' is the best way to describe something like this - it isn't a dock or factory.

Although I don't think 'downed-tools' for 24 hours would have worked either

Hundreds of private hire drivers operating under the Veezu platform across Wigan, Liverpool and St Helens have officially launched a co-ordinated 24-hour strike

The industrial action began today, Wednesday July 8, at 6am and is set to run continuously until 6am tomorrow.

The region-wide walk-out is a protest against Veezu’s recent decision to impose a 20 per cent commission rate on driver earnings.

Speaking on behalf of the striking drivers, a local driver representative said: "We are local, hard-working drivers trying to earn an honest living, but this 20 per cent commission hike is stripping away our livelihoods.

"When you factor in the skyrocketing costs of fuel, vehicle maintenance, and specialized taxi insurance, we are left with next to nothing.

"We can no longer afford to keep quiet while our families suffer."

Drivers in Wigan and Merseyside say they feel they have been left with no choice but to withdraw their labour after repeated attempts to negotiate a fairer structure were ignored by the company management.

The 24-hour strike is expected to cause major disruptions to local transport networks, affecting morning and evening commuters, school runs, and airport transfers across Merseyside and Wigan.

The driver collective expresses its sincere regrets for the inconvenience caused to the public but emphasizes that this action is necessary to secure fair working conditions.

Drivers are calling on Veezu management to immediately return to the negotiating table to implement a sustainable commission rate that respects the drivers' essential role in the community.

Wigan Today has attempted to make contact with Veezu.

I'm not convinced walkouts, or whatever we/they choose to call them, ever work. Due to our trade being generally an ununited gang.

But the likes of Veezu will hate this negative press, and that in itself could help out the drivers in the end.
