Appeal following assault on taxi driver in Liverpool

We have issued images of two men we would like to speak to after a taxi driver was assaulted in Liverpool.

We received a report at just before 11.30pm on Saturday 11 July that the 34-year-old driver had been assaulted by a group of males on Picton Road in Wavertree.

The driver reported he had collected the males from a restaurant on Mill Lane in Wavertree.

After reaching their destination the males failed to pay the total fare and when the driver verbally challenged them the males ran back to the taxi, shouted and swore at him and punched him repeatedly in the face before running away.

The driver reportedly lost consciousness and members of the public came to his aid. He was taken to hospital with a facial injury.

An investigation is underway and witness and forensic enquiries carried out.

We have issued images of two men who we believe could assist with our enquiries.

Detective Inspector Jemma Berry said: “This was a nasty and unprovoked assault on a man who was simply trying to do his job.

“This type of behaviour is totally unacceptable and we will do everything within our powers to find those responsible and bring them to justice.

“I would ask anyone who recognises the men to come forward and tell us what they know as we believe they could be vital to our investigation.”
