Some slightly odd bits and pieces in here, but that's maybe for readers to judge...

But, I mean, this reads like another taxi driver was assaulted. And police were assaulted. And it sounds like a pretty scary incident for those involved.

Man arrested after late-night incident involving taxis in Aberdeen

Police said a 33-year-old man had been arrested.

A taxi driver has told The Press And Journal he is seeing “more and more incidents” in Aberdeen city centre after witnessing a late-night disturbance.

Keith Webster said taxi drivers should not have to deal with such incidents while trying to do their jobs.

Police arrested a 33-year-old man after receiving a report of a disturbance on Chapel Street at around 11.25pm on Saturday August 29.

Police Scotland said the man was arrested in connection with the incident and a police assault.

He received a recorded police warning and a fixed penalty notice.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.25pm on Saturday, 29 August, 2026, officers received a report of a disturbance on Chapel Street, Aberdeen.

“A 33-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and a police assault. He was issued with a recorded police warning and a fixed penalty notice.”

Taxi driver witnessed Aberdeen disturbance

Mr Webster, who works as a taxi driver in the city centre, witnessed the disturbance.

He said a man approached his taxi and “violently punched” its window.

Mr Webster said the man then approached another taxi stopped at traffic lights near Chapel Street on Union Street.

He said the man opened the passenger door and a scuffle followed.

Mr Webster said door staff and members of the public intervened and restrained the man until police arrived.

He later posted an appeal to the other taxi driver to let them know what had happened after they left the scene.

Mr Webster said: “Because you had to drive away following the assault, I wanted to reassure you that the police did arrive, and the man was arrested, handcuffed, and put into the police van.

“I hope you’re okay after being assaulted. It was a terrifying situation to go through while just trying to do your job.”

‘We all need to look out for each other’

Speaking to The Press And Journal, Mr Webster said: “I work in the city centre most days, and I am seeing more and more incidents that need to be reported to the police.

“People should not have to go to work as a taxi driver, and deal with these types of things.

“We all need to look out for each other, and I am glad police took swift action.”

The disturbance comes just over a week after the back window of Mr Webster’s taxi was smashed during a separate incident in Aberdeen.

Mr Webster previously told The Press And Journal that a man riding a Voi e-bike damaged his Skoda Octavia on Union Row shortly after 9pm on August 20.

He described it at the time as the worst damage caused to his car during his 35 years as a taxi driver.

Police confirmed officers had received a report of damage to a vehicle following that incident and said inquiries were ongoing.

Anyway, the author of that piece is a journalist called Louise Glen. And maybe the likes of the incident above provides a flavour of why relatively few drivers work at weekends into the early hours. And certainly very few women, if any.

Which can then be linked to the whole P&J promotion of Uber and how that would solve everything

But which link is never made in any of the P&J's stuff on Uber etc.

Anyway, the main reason to mention Louise Glen is a slightly more tangential link. She was one of the journos at the heart of the Inverness rapist coverage.

And you know what I'm about to say about confusion over different taxi licences etc. And the claim by another female P&J journo that women didn't need to be told the difference

So a week ago I came across a BBC podcast from July about the Inverness rapist, in which the said Louise Glen referred several times to a 'taxi licence' (ie plate), when in fact she meant a badge

Can't be bothered listening to it again, but I think there's also the usual stuff about why there are very few women drivers, and why to that extent women passengers don't feel safe.

But, as per usual, the high-powered women in the podcast aren't volunteering, and don't link the likes of the Aberdeen incident above to why there aren't many women drivers.

Apart, of course, for the Inverness rapist's wife, who all concerned seemed to want to put out of work
