Most of this is unremarkable, but couldn't help notice the stuff about avoiding confrontation and acting responsibly on social media Isle of Wight taxi drivers could face new code of conduct https://www.countypress.co.uk/news/2666 ... e-conduct/ A new code of conduct, more training and a three-year minimum period for holding a driving licence could be introduced under proposed changes to Isle of Wight taxi rules. County Hall's environment and community protection committee (ECPC) has been advised to approve a draft Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Statement of Licensing Policy 2027–2032 for a six-week consultation. Council officers have said the policy supports the provision of safe, licensed drivers and vehicles for residents and visitors using Island taxis. A new Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Driver Code of Conduct is also proposed to set clear standards of behaviour and professionalism for all licensed drivers, according to an ECPC report. Key changes in the proposed licensing policy include increasing the minimum period for which a driver applicant must have held a full driving licence from one year to three years, expanded safeguarding training and more comprehensive provisions for drug and alcohol testing. The code of conduct encompasses rules such as responding professionally to complaints, avoiding unnecessary confrontation and acting responsibly when using social media. Officers said that while the code does not create new criminal offences, compliance with it may be considered by the council when assessing whether an individual remains a fit and proper person to hold a licence. ECPC councillors will consider the policy at a 5pm meeting at County Hall on October 29. |

Quote: The code of conduct encompasses rules such as responding professionally to complaints, avoiding unnecessary confrontation and acting responsibly when using social media. Something like 'avoiding unnecessary confrontation' could mean so many different things... As for acting responsibly on social media, that's even worse, particularly if it's not job-related And if it involves NOT saying disobliging things about councillors and officials, then bye-bye my badge

The nanny state is alive and kicking on the IoW. Unlike most of the residents. |
