I LIVE in Stoney Road in Cheylesmore and we residents are getting fed up with taxis, apparently involved in a dispute at the railway station with Virgin Trains.

We are now plagued with traffic chaos until about 10am every day. The taxis queue from the station all around Station Square and Manor Road, spilling into Stoney Road. That includes double-yellow lines and around all corners, (there is a blind bend as you come over the railway bridge, making this very dangerous).

Stoney Road is extremely busy first thing in the morning.

We have lodged complaints with the taxi licensing officials at the council, but they are not interested. We have complained to the police, but they are not remotely interested, so where do we go?

I frequently come home to find I can't even get on my drive because a taxi is parked across it. I live a good 75 yards away from the junction with Manor Road.

Do we have to wait until someone is killed before action is taken?

Talking of taxis and stations and the Midlands. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west ... 369732.stm For the umpteenth time just ask the council to put the 20p on the meter. Or is it a case of wanting to keep the 300 out?

I would be surprised if they are not, but I suspect they are not in the local taxi association. Maybe the reason the local taxi association don't want the 300 non-members to ply the station is because if all drivers are allowed free access, then those 300 non-members could become 600 non-members.

Or is it a case of wanting to keep the 300 out? If they work the station on a regular basis they will get the swipe card and probably do what Manchester did, which is put 20p extra on the fare. Even though its illegal. Eventually the local trade reps will get the message and approach the council to have the 20p put on the fare, as a legal extra. I bet this is done within six months. Seems like a good case for regulation. 300 taxis waiting at the station ............... those trains must be busy. B. Lucky
