Taxi firms in York are angry about plans for a huge hike in the cost of their annual operator's license.
Some of the cab firms who currently pay £145 a year could find themselves paying several hundred pounds if the new charges are agreed on Wednesday.
The City of York Council says an increase would ensure council tax payers are not being asked to subsidise the cost of the taxi licensing office.
I think the answer to the problem in York is quite simple. They only have about 70 taxis paying the license fee. So if they need to raise more money to run the licensing department, well they should just issue another 200 taxi licenses.
Can't understand why the local taxi trade hasn't thought of that already.

Sussex.
