Taxi driver jailed after bullets find

A private hire taxi driver who admitted hiding a stash of cocaine and bullets has been jailed for four and a half years. Craig Patrick, 37, had enough cocaine to fetch £180,000 if sold on the streets, the High Court in Glasgow heard.

The haul was seized last April after police were tipped off that Patrick had drugs in his house at Kenilworth Road, Kirkintilloch. They smashed his door down to gain entry and found the drugs as well as a stash of 15 bullets.

Peter Gray QC, defending, said Patrick, who admitted the supply and possession charges, had got into debt after the break up of a four-year relationship. He borrowed £400 and was later told he could pay off the debt by storing the drugs and getting rid of the bullets.

Mr Gray said Patrick had never been involved in any form of crime before, and added: "Since his arrest he's thought of little else other than his sheer folly."

Silly fool I remember a few years ago a lorry driver who lived in my street took a bribe to allow an extra pallet to be loaded onto his lorry ( he did continental runs for a local haulage company) He was caught and the result he lost his job his house his wife and went to prison for 2 years

When you get your badge you make a declaration that says you'll be honest and upstanding on the application form whatever are these people thinking of (probably assuming they wont get caught) I know of 2 cabbies locally who have had some involvement with drugs once that got out neither could get onto any legitimate taxi board but unfortunately as they were licensed hackney it wasn't possible to stop them working and selling drugs

When I first started 99% of drivers finding wallets/valuables in the cars would have handed them in.

Now I would be surprised if it's 50%.

There are a few reasons for this, but the biggest IMO we can't talk about.
