I have just had a thought, and that is many of us use 2 way radios, I wonder if the police would be interested in letting us have a separate frequency or channel with direct links to them, we could report any crime taking place directly or call for help.
most 2 way's have extra buttons that could be used.
What do you guy's think I think its possible and would work.

Yea right, the police helping out cabbies

And they wouldn't want cabbies reporting crimes, it means more work for them.

Cynical aint I.

Our marshals have them on weekend nights (PH Offices), the Police drop em off ablout 10pm and collect em when the rush is all over.
It's a great idea.
There again we do get on really well with our local police, the respect works both ways.

I think a number of areas have direct links to the police from the taxi offices.

But the chances of 1/2/3,000 drivers all linked up to the police on a one to one basis is not one the police would cherish. 8-[

The door staff in York have their own radio system which is monitored by the Police, the taxi association have had ten radios on trial for a few weeks and it is working very well, police response is mega quick, the only problem is coverage however they are looking at moving the aerials then there will be a hire charge of £5 per week when the coverage improves.

Not so much cynical, more realistic   I was once told by a serving officer , "Taxi drivers are just criminals who have not been caught yet". Needless to say, as a lifelong law-abiding person, I felt alienated and hurt by this contempt and prejudice towards our profession. So let them do the job they are paid to do. 8)

Ok till just like the other night when a radio got nicked off a doorman, the thieving idiots led police on a few wild goose chases, police declined to respond to door staff radio calls, only 999 calls would be accepted, till radio was found, has the radio been recovered???
