Man Admits stabbing Kirkby cabbie

A MAN who admitted his part in the stabbing of a Kirkby taxi was jailed for 12 months at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday.

John Mwangi (22), of Gainsford Crescent, Bestwood, had previously admitted to being involved in the stabbing of Frank James in the Top Valley area of Nottingham last October at an earlier hearing.

Mr James, who was working for an Arnold-based taxi firm, was attacked by Mwangi and an unknown accomplice as he attempted to claim a fare.

Mwangi, who admitted wounding and possessing an offensive weapon, spat at Mr James and walked away before the unknown attacker stabbed him -- leaving the taxi driver with arm, stomach and finger injuries.

In sentencing Mwangi, Judge Michael Stokes said: "He did not know that both man had knives on them. The carrying of knives in Nottingham and other places is becoming a scurge. It has to be known that anyone who behaves like that has to go to prison."

Only twelve months for stabbing a cabbie. :sad:

Maybe they do need a Judge Dred to decide on these sentences. :wink:
