A couple of points taxi rates are cheaper compared to Private Hire rates in yok and four people traveling to town centre are better off sharing a taxi than paying bus fares

I think the fact that you have a formula is a good thing, and if your costs go up then IMO it's not asking much for your fares to go up as well.

A 4% increase means a £10 fare becomes a £10.40 fare. Big f***ing deal.

Fair on fares
By Reader's letter
As pointed out by Alan Rowley and Stuart Robertson, a four per cent rise in taxi fares is a very fair increase.

The rise across the country on bus fares is far in excess of this amount.

I am very disappointed by Coun Gil Nimmo's attitude in The Press (Taxi fares to go up by four per cent, April 9).


Firstly the £5 quoted from York to Rawcliffe appears to be plucked out of thin air. Question - from where in York to where in Rawcliffe?

The suggestion of fares being reduced from a man in his position is nothing short of ridiculous. This increase deemed to be fair by his colleagues on the council seems to be accepted by all except him.

If Coun Nimmo cared to look into the national league table of fares, he would find York's are a lot lower than in many other towns and cities.

After The Press printed a list of councillors' expenses a few years ago, I would think Coun Nimmo should be looking at those figures, and show a lot more sympathy towards men who do a good job on behalf of the city of York.


well it looks like someone has filed a complaint and knocked back the taxi fare increase, 4% is too dear by their reckons, have heard its a woman councillor, FFS, 4p in the £.

I got this bloke in the cab Saturday night, it went like this

by you must be making a bomb, what will you do tonight, you must do what, take at least 100 people home tonight, and if its a fiver a job at least, your quids in times 7 days a week, wouldn't mind your job plus all that money in the bank

The original article is contradictory, and it's not clear whether the councillor wanted merely a lower increase or lower fares altogether.
