dundee city council's masterplan to reduce numbers in the trade comes into affect next month. all plate renewal forms will now contain a tax ref. number and NI. number request box ! any operator not supplying both will not recieve grant of application. this was done with representatives from inland revenue and dept of works and pensions present and even council tax officials ! we are monitoring the stuation, and the plates are starting to go in already ! 31st being the deadline for renewals the badge renewals are next may and the above applies for drivers also. could this be the end of hired plates ??? coz anyone without a tax ref. ain't getting plate nor badge !!! |

I wish our council would adopt that approach as there are a number of operators and drivers dodging the system, they have also licenced another 4 cabs this week with no regard for they rest of us. |

Surely there is nothing stopping the tax folks just getting a print out of operators and drivers now? Then they just need to bang a few doors.

The new measures are probably intended as more of a deterrent. The taxman could probably have a field day in the trade if he wanted, but the main culprits are probably part-time/weekend drivers dodging a few hundred in tax each year, so it's probably not cost-effective to go through everything with a finetooth comb. |

They tend to have blitzes it'll be a case of them turning up in an area for a day going to every cab firm the trouble is they phone up first and tell you they're coming !!!
mind you on that day it's great the rank is empty !!!! |

There's nothing to stop any licensed driver from submitting a request that this becomes part of the conditions , it is no hard to do. |
