In my experience most councillors DO NOT see trains and taxis as being part of the same public transport system and don't therefore draw comparisons !

My prediction for the future is that only passenger services in Scotland will be nationalised freight will continue on a private enterprise basis and taxis will probably be further DEregulated !

Its was announced today that the Scottish Parliament is looking into reversing of the de-nationalisation of the railway system. This shows how far political thinking has changed.

I haven't seen any mention of the Scottish Parliament announcing anything of the sort - could you provide a source?

What was reported was that Network Rail are considering bidding for the rail franchise which is currently operated by First ScotRail. So it wouldn't amount to renationalisation unless you consider Network Rail to be state-controlled, in which case it wouldn't be such a radical change because Network Rail already owns the rail infrastructure.

As for the substance of your issue, well TBH the Scots can do what they like.

The Scottish Parliament is in recess at the moment because of the forthcoming elections, so I can't really see it mentioning anything of this nature.

Its was announced today that the Scottish Parliament is looking into reversing of the de-nationalisation of the railway system. This shows how far political thinking has changed. The free-market and de-rugulation has failed to bring any of the consumer benefits promised. Councillors at local level cannot fail to see the similarities with the Taxis trade. This is the end of Dereg/Delimit and more districts will re-impose controls and numerical limits. The dereg/delimit experiment has been costly to consumer and provider but IS an unmitigated failure. Not one area can show that it has brought any benefit to consumers and the decision takes can see it plainly for themselves. R.I.P Dereg/Delimit.

I think you are wrong Councils talk now about integrated transport services and networks, no more railways stations, its a travel interchange now and placement of Taxi ranks is part of the planning remit on all major developements. My point is that the overall general political thinking has changed, dereg/delimit is not the magic wand they were led to believe it would be. If Councillors don't see the connection immediatley they soon will when threatened areas bring it to their attention. They do respond to logical reasoned arguement, the reason Dereg/Delimit took such a hold was the apathy within the Taxi trade but lessons have been learnt we will no longer be mis-led by the likes of this forum. I think there with be more limits and caps put on than taken off in future.

They are going to take over all the railway system.
