Taxi firm more than doubles fleet in sale

One of Cornwall's biggest taxi firms has been created in Truro.

Truronian has sold City Taxis after nine years to A2B Taxis (Truro) Ltd.

The move more than doubles the A2B fleet to 30 and follows Truronian's decision to concentrate on its rapidly expanding core bus and coach business.

Truronian managing director Geoff Rumbles said the business had seen massive growth in the last two years. The coach holiday business saw 35% more bookings in the first day of the winter /spring season of 2007/2008 than the previous year.

A2B Taxis began with just two taxis in 1998.

"City Taxis has been our only competition until now and we will now be Cornwall's biggest Hackney carriage firm," said Philip Perryman, joint managing director with his wife, Julie.

"We have steadily taken on more business to the point where it was a logical next step to substantially expand the fleet. "We will now be doing a lot of NHS work as well as our railway contracts and could well be expanding our fleet again before long."
