City taxi driver in knife horror;

Gang of thugs take car

By Sian Powell

THUGS threatened a Coventry taxi driver at knifepoint and took his car.

The man had been waiting for his next job in his private hire car in the Queens Road area of the city centre, near the Butts, when he was approached by a gang of four men.

A black man, believed to be in his late teens or early twenties, threatened the man with a knife and forced him out of his car.

The gang then drove off in the silver Ford Mondeo. The driver was not injured but was left shaken by his ordeal.

The car was later found in the car park of John Tofts House in Leicester Row. Officers at Little Park Street are appealing for information on the incident, which happened at 3.15am yesterday.

Sergeant Rob Stokes said: "The man was not injured, but he was obviously shaken up. He was able to provide us with a description and details of what happened shortly afterwards.

"This is a nasty incident and a rare one as well.

"Any information can be phoned through to the robbery team at Little Park Street or anonymously left with Crimestoppers."
