Ferry returns first SNP man for years

THE Scottish National Party has gained a foothold in Queens-ferry for the first time in more than a decade.

SNP candidate Norman Work became the first Scottish Nationalist to win a seat to represent Queensferry in the city council, since

former district councillor Willie Hardie.

Norman, an Edinburgh taxi driver who lives in Queensferry, came third in the polls for the new Almond ward behind sitting councillors Kate MacKenzie and George Grubb.

He joins them with responsibility for what is the biggest land area ward in Edinburgh city council, which covers Ratho Station, Kirkliston, Queensferry, Dalmeny, Cramond, Davidson's Mains and Silverknowes.

This week he said: "It was an incredible feeling to hear the result last Friday. It was made even more special as the Almond ward count was the first declared which meant that I was the first SNP councillor to be elected to the new city council."

While Norman admitted becoming a councillor is ''all a bit daunting'' at the moment, he will receive training at the city council and he added: "I am a good listener and promise I will live up to my name. I am really looking forward to working with George and Kate."
