Thats because they earn about £70 a week.

It's the closest they will ever get to becoming London Taxi Drivers.

The old bill up here in Manchester do not enforce illegal plying for hire, and from what I can see neither do the local council. It might not be a case that they don't want to enforce it, it is probably a case of proving it.

Of course, the Govt recently said that taxi and PH enforcement was a low priority, so that doesn't help much and clearly sends out the wrong signal, from our perspective at least.

You're right of course.

Perhaps we should all relinquish our hackney carriage and private hire licenses and just pick up off the street. Enforcement is non existent so why pay licensing fees when no one really gives a chit who picks up off the street?

Manchester council employs seven enforcement officers to police nearly four thousand hackney and private hire vehicles. You can see where their priorities lie.

Quite sure they aren't at present, but come 2012 who knows?
