The Evening Standard (London)

July 23, 2007 Monday

The Mayor of London;

The Mayor of London has approved Public Carriage Office notice 44/06, which will prohibit a passenger from using a cash machine to get money out to pay the fare.

"Highway authorities will not allow parking where a passenger asks a driver to stop and wait" for this purpose. Given that Livingstone took a taxi home from Blackpool at a cost to the council taxpayer of £260, you would have thought he would be sympathetic to those who didn't always carry quite enough cash on them.

One of the great mysteries that one though,someday hails you next to a cash machine and then when they get in they ask you if you could stop at the nearest cash machine.

That's been the case for many years where waiting (only in certain streets) is prohibited. Setting down is'nt a problem as Taxi's are exempt for as long as it takes, but cash machine stops are a no no.

With the advent of cctv enforcement (coming to towns near you soon) it's not worth the risk. I always ask as soon as a fare gets in nowadays, as to whether a cash machine stop is required, so as to accomodate them without risk of a fine being generated.

Can you post the full text of the notice please?

I'd love the opportunity Skippy, but like the majority of those working in London, I live outside in the home counties.

Ken gets in on the back of the lefties and the great swathes of unemployed who keep getting more and more freebies from my tax.

Who knows, Boris may unseat him at last, but i'm not holding my breath. If he gets back in we can expect more and more streets to close, and gridlock throughout London. It's fast approaching the stage where business will start to leave London as no one can move through the socialist pricks actions.

Still, keeps fools like Flannagan happy. [-X

So it's a choice between Ken the clown and Boris the buffoon? :lol:

BTW, GBC, I can't find the notice on the TfL/PCO website. :?

Well how many taxi owners and drivers are there, and PH in London, if word was sent around I'm sure there could be enough votes to get rid of him

Don't worry GBC, When I vote him out I will think of you and all the other LCDs that have been turned over by him. Extras, just to name one.
