Taxi driver escapes ban for speeding;

WALES

A TAXI driver caught speeding has avoided a driving ban because magistrates heard yesterday that it would cost her her job.

At Prestatyn magistrates court Diane Cridge pleaded guilty to travelling 48mph in a 40mph area on the A525 at Sarn Lane, Rhuddlan.

The offence took place on December 19, 2006.

The court heard that as she already had nine points on her licence she faced a six-month ban from driving under the "totting up" procedure.

Cridge, 56, of Dawson Crescent, Prestatyn, said she had been a taxi driver for 10 years and worked 80 hours a week.

If she lost her job she would be unable to make her mortgage payments.

She was fined pounds 100 and ordered to pay pounds 35 costs after chairman David Harrison said they accepted that disqualification would cause exceptional hardship.

I would urge all drivers to keep to the speed limit if near the 12 point limit.

That said, if you do reach the limit then plead hardship if you want to keep your license. Not for you, but for your family. :wink:

Do not automatically think you are going to get a ban. There was one motorist out there (not a Taxi driver for a change) but he actually had 31 pts on his license :shock: .

Check it out it is on the internet somewhere.

If a taxi/PH driver commits an offence while working then the courts don't like that, they even say so in their sentencing guidelines. :-$

But courts will take into consideration any effect a totting up sentence has on the families of the guilty, as they have done no wrong. :wink:
